Aronia is of North American origin. It was brought to Europe in the 18th century. It is grown massively in Germany, Poland, Russia.

Description:

Aronia is a perennial shrub with a height of 1.5 to 3 meters. In the first 3-4 years, the young bushes are compact, and then they reach 2 meters in diameter. The root system is strong branched, but superficial, shallowly located. The aerial part of the bush is made up of shoots grown from the ground part of the stems or from the rhizome. Aronia has cherry-like leaves, obovate, 4-8 cm long and 3-5 cm wide. The leaves are strongly toothed, have pointed tips and are glossy dark green on the upper side and whitish on the lower side. Aronia fruit has a diameter of 1 cm and a weight of 1-1.5 g. Yields from one bush vary from 4-12 kg, but can reach 15 kg.

Aronia fruits contain sugars, organic acids, vitamin C, betacarotene, folic acid, riboflavin, tocopherol, mineral salts: potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, manganese, copper, zinc, iodine, amino acids: arginine, tyrosine, histidine and lysine, alphaalanine, cystine, aspartic acid and serine, glutamic acid and threonine

Usage:

Vitamin P has anti-sclerotic, capillary-strengthening, anti-inflammatory andprimarily hypotensive action. This makes aronia fruits suitable for the prevention of hypertension, atherosclerosis, capillarotoxicosis, kidney inflammations, etc. The high content of fructose and the presence of sorbose defines the fruit as suitable for diabetics. Aronia fruits contain iodine, chlorogenic, etc. phenolic acids, which is why they are recommended for diseases of the thyroid gland.

Ways of use:

It is best to consume fresh fruit, then in the form of juice, compotes, sweets and jams; wines, liqueurs and fruit purees. The use of chokeberry fruits is recommended for the treatment of hypertension, atherosclerosis, capillary toxicosis, kidney diseases,gastritis with reduced acidity, etc. At home for the treatment of hypertension the fresh fruit juice is recommended - half a tea cup per day, to be taken within 2 weeks. In official medical practice, it is allowed to take the fruits and juice from aronia at hypertension, hemorrhages of different origin, at atherosclerosis and anacid gastritis.
