It grows by the rivers in wet and sandy places, in the bushes throughout the country up to 1000 m above sea level.

Description:

A tree with dark grey, deeply fissured bark, up to 25-30 m tall. Young twigs at apex with silvery hairs, later glabrous. Leaves lanceolate, alternate, long-pointed, 5-12 cm long. 1-3 cm wide, finely toothed along the edge, covered on both sides or only below with silvery hairs, with small stipules (1.5-2.0 cm), which are narrowly lanceolate, glandular, early falling. Petioles short, 1-2 at apex жлези. Цветовете събрани в цилиндрични реси. развиващи се едновременно с листата и без околоцветник. Ресите с мъжки цветове са дълги до 7 см и дебели до 1 см, с жълтеникави или зеленикави продълговати прицветници. Тичинките 2, свободни, два пъти по-дълга от прицветниците. Женските реси са дълги до 5 см и дебели до 0,5 см. Плодът кутийка, дълга до 5 мм.
