Description:

Fenugreek is a beautiful, perennial herb. The rhizome and stems are woody at the base. Flowering stems are straight or erect, unbranched or branched, up to 50 cm long. The leaves are opposite, slightly toothed or entire. The lower ones are oblong, blunt, with short onespetioles narrowed towards the base, slightly serrated, and the upper ones broad-cordate, sessile. The bracts are membranous, lemon yellow, relatively large, pointed at the tip, giving beauty to the inflorescence. The calyx is tubular bell-shaped, with 10 veins and 5 almost identical teeth, pointed at the tip. The fallopian tube is hidden in the calyx. The corolla is bilobed. The upper lip is erect, almost flat. The lower one is 3-part, with a wider and incised middle section. The stamens are enclosed in the corolla tube, the posterior ones being shorter than the anterior ones. The anthers of the long stamens are underdeveloped. The stem at the top is 2-parted, with one part being wider and with its base surrounding the other, shorter and blunter part. The whole plant is white-fibrous, covered with whitish fluff. Blooms July - September. Inflorescences retain their beauty for a long time even after reblooming

Composition of the herb:

Essential oil, bitter substances and tannins. After analysis, 3 substances were isolated in the herb, designated as steroids A, B and C. It was found that steroid A on hydrolysis gives chlorogenic acid and glucose.

Therapeutic effect:

In folk medicine, the plant is used as a softening agent for cough, bronchitis and a cold to expectorate.

Usage:

Wild and cultivated, Mursal tea is widely used primarily to relieve the symptoms of lung diseases such as cough of various origin and gastric disorder. The pharmacological properties of the plant described in the scientific literature as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties confirm its traditional use in the relief of cough, associated with colds, as well as for gastrointestinal ailments.

Ways of use:

Internally: Cut 3–4 stalks and pour 2 tea cups of boiling water. After 10 minutes, strain the liquid and drink 1 tablespoon every 2 hours. It is always taken as a warm tea, in sips. The herb has a pleasant aroma, resembling the smell of green tea and lemon. Decorative plant.

Mursal tea has been known as a miracle herb in the folk medicine of the Balkan countries for centuries, traditionally used as a medicinal aromatic herbal tea.
